Water running over rock

Roman discovered liquid iron

Ferrotone® is an iron-rich water from the Trefriw Wells spa, located in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. For 200 years, millions of people around the world have been drinking this water to support a healthy lifestyle, but that’s not really where the story begins. In fact, people have been enjoying the properties of the spring for 2,000 years, starting with its discovery by the Roman legions who were mining sulphur in the area around 100-250 AD.

Extensively used by locals

After that, the information is vague, but what we do know is that the place was very popular with locals in the early 1700s, who preferred to bathe in this thermal water rather than drink it. In fact, by 1833, the demand was so high that the hot spring was officially converted into a bathhouse.
